We have known since Einstein that time should be relative. That it really is, we know thanks to a NASA experiment from 1985. But Porsche Design now proves that it can also be personalized. With new and customizable chronographs that can be configured as extensively as the 911 itself. The watch manufacturer in Solothurn, Switzerland, which is affiliated to the sports car manufacturer, now offers watches based on the Chronotimer Series 1 - which in turn brings F.A. Porsche's watch design with titanium case from 1972 into the present.
The timepieces can be ordered with a bracelet made of glass bead blasted natural titanium, black coated with titanium carbide or even with a leather strap. Together with 27 colors for dial rings and options for the bezel (minuterie & tachymeter), there are more than 1.5 million possible combinations. But the watchmakers not only use colors based on the 911's paintwork, leather and seams from the automotive industry also find their way into the »sports car for the wrist«. The same applies to the rims, which have been reduced in size by 1:22 and serve as winding rotors, and a Porsche logo miniaturized to just 3.3 millimeters.
The whole thing can be rounded off by individual laser engravings, which, on request, can be found in the case back. All in all? Pretty elegant. And damned timeless. Just by looking at the waiting time alone, you can't quite put that label on it: At present, Porsche Design expects a good eight to twelve weeks until delivery. This in turn can be combined with the time needed to pick up your own Porsche.
The watches can be personalized online from July 1, 2020 using a configurator. Using the »Porsche Design Code« created at the end of the individualization process, the watch can then be ordered at participating Porsche Centres in Germany. Other markets will follow later in the year.
