High Voltage: The Taycan is here

Three continents, two models, one car: Porsche presented the new Taycan simultaneously in North America, Europe and Asia. The first electric Porsche of the modern times convinces not only with design and impressive performance values, but also with a well-thought-out overall concept.

With the Taycan, Porsche has introduced its first series-produced electric car. Only a few days after the 99X electric racing car for Formula E, the series version of the four-door Taycan sports car was unveiled in Berlin, Toronto and Fuzhou. In the focus: The two high-performance variants Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo, which celebrated their premiere at a unique show spanning over three continents.

With an acceleration of just 2.8 and 3.2 seconds, respectively, from zero to 100 km/h, the two top variants are intended not only to accelerate passengers, but also the transformation in Zuffenhausen. The Taycan Turbo S and Turbo on display will feature 761 hp and 680 hp, respectively, the top performers of a model family that will soon be expanded by less powerful variants and the Taycan Cross Turismo, already known as a study. Two electric motors on the front and rear axles serve as the drive and deliver a peak torque of 1,050 Netwonmeters which is passed on to the wheels by an innovative two-speed gearbox.

»This day marks the beginning of a new era,« said Porsche's CEO Oliver Blume in the course of the presentation led by ex-racing driver Mark Webber. »The Taycan combines our tradition with the future. It continues the success story of our brand,« he said, formulating the demands placed on the latest model.

In addition to high performance figures and a clear design that has changed very little compared to the Mission E Concept Study, the Taycan also convinces with a well thought-out overall concept. In addition to effective and fast charging, which should make the electric sports car fit for another hundred kilometers distance in just five minutes and charge it to 80 percent in just 22.5 minutes, the focus was also on sustainability in terms of materials. For example, a leather-free equipment variant is available for the interior - it completely dispenses with the raw material and instead uses innovative recycling material.

The sports car manufacturer also chose the appropriate locations for the presentation: The solar park in Neuhardenberg near Berlin, the wind park on the island of Pingtan in China and the Niagara Falls in Canada demonstrated Zuffenhausen's vision of a sustainable power supply: Solar, wind and water power as energy suppliers for the drive of the Taycan. The three venues were also intended to represent the most important sales markets for the new Porsche - Europe, North America and Asia.

The prices for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo, which can be ordered immediately, are 185,456 euros for the absolute top version and 152,136 euros for the second strongest Taycan.
